Gran VÍA
Stage
Gran Vía is one of the main streets in the city of Madrid. Since its construction at the beginning of the 20th century, it has been a landmark from a commercial, tourist and leisure point of view. Famous for its cinemas and theatres, it is known as "Madrid's Broadway". Nowadays it is also home to numerous international fashion chain shops, which gives it a special glamour and a constant flow of people. With two lanes in each direction, it is the ideal setting for a top-class international walking competition.
Sports
management
"Walking is a great speciality, but there are very few opportunities. If it were promoted more and better, if we realised that it is enough for us to cut 500 metres off a street, if we understood that a 20 km race doesn't last as long as a football match... the number of walkers would grow exponentially. And with them the chances of success. Walking has given great success and satisfaction to Spanish athletics".
"Events such as MM serve to give visibility to our discipline, as well as being the ideal prologue to the major athletic events: World, European and Olympic Games".
